Spring Is Finally Here
Okay, the calendar says it’s spring and the days are certainly
getting longer, but it hasn’t felt much like it. Yet, some of us are wondering
about launch schedules. We’ve heard that McKinley is going to be opening
up slips by April 15. As in the past we will work to make your schedule. But,
please give us a couple of days advance notice 414-429-7000, or email. We will
continue to avoid Sunday launching including Memorial Day weekend, but all other
days are fair game. We prefer to have you here with us when we launch unless
other arrangements are made.
On Launch Day
Keep a few items in mind when preparing for launch day. When
we put your boat in the water, please remember we need your four dock lines.
Two on the bow, and two on each corner of the stern. This avoids delays but
more importantly avoids potential damage to the boat when the boat is lowered
into the water and the slings are released. To safely work your boat, each dock
line should be 25 to 30 feet in length. Dock line length becomes even more important
in the event of a mechanical problem should we need to move the boat temporarily
into an open slip.
Sailors remember to schedule a railroad bridge opening after checking your launch schedule with Pier Milwaukee. The Canadian Pacific bridge contact is Don, and he can be reached at 414-389-3772. As is the case in the past the street bridges at 1st, and at KK can be hailed on VHF Channel 16 and are always manned, but will not open any day between 430pm-530pm.
Getting Uncovered
We do not have the facilities to handle several boat covers
being discarded, while at the same time providing for routine trash disposal.
Beginning this season no covers are to be discarded in the garbage dumpster.
Rather, we will appropriately handle disposing of your boat cover for a $18
fee if you choose. Of course you can choose to dispose of your own cover off
site as well.
In The Event…
A particular problem we had last spring involved boats having
mechanical problems occupying docks for an extended period of time following
launch. This season we will provide docking at boat owners risk for anyone having
logistical and or mechanical concerns for 48 hours following launch. Beyond
that period there will be a $15 per day docking fee.
At some point in April we will be turning water on around the yard. Lastly, once again we will place channel markers in the river through the bend and up to Milwaukee Marine indicating depths to at least five feet.
See you at the boat yard soon!
